I felt that overall this was a bad experience. I was notified that I needed a lab test only one work day before my appointment. The doctor did not seem prepared for our meeting--he either didn't have my file or wasn't looking at it, so I had to give him information that he should have been aware of. He scheduled an expensive, out-of-the-area imaging test but provided no information about its necessity. (I should have asked questions about it, but it seemed like he wanted to finish the consultation quickly.) Overall, I felt that Dr. Bernstein was either ill or otherwise distracted, and I was not prepared for a consultation under these circumstances.

My situation was unique in that I have not been able to find a primary care provider in our area, but needed to be seen quickly by a urologist for a kidney stone after a trip to the ER. The receptionist understood my dilemma and helped me get an appointment with Dr. Bernstein the day after my visit to the ER. Dr. Bernstein was obviously very busy and had to be called away to the hospital, but still made time for me and was extremely attentive during our appointment. Everyone involved, from office staff to attending nurses to Dr. Bernstein himself were extremely kind and understanding about the situation and made me a priority. I'm beyond grateful for the experience I had there.

The office staff, nurses, and Dr. Bernstein all were very professional throughout. And very pleasant respectful.

I am grateful to have a urologist here in Humboldt County. That being said, I do feel there's room for improvement. Despite having met 6 months before, Dr Bernstein introduced himself to me as though we'd never met. He also did not seem too acquainted with my urological history. Finally, timeliness could be improved. I was scheduled for the first visit appointment of the day, and waited 50 minutes before seeing the doctor!

I have seen this doctor 3 times and I have found that I have severe pain and it's really hard to urinate and I have a real urgent feeling to urinate and it's slow and really slow and painful and I didn't have this problem when I came to my appointment

I greatly appreciate Dr. Bernstein for his expert advising and for responding to my request to begin scheduling my surgery. I am hoping to get my kidney surgically removed before the renal carcinoma cells can metastasize to the rest of my body!
